Langlade County has a Strong Economic Development Force

Langlade County has a Strong Economic Development Force

A rare three-agency shuffle has placed Langlade County residents—all  women—in charge of public entities guiding development efforts at the local and regional level. Angie Close is now the director of the Langlade County Economic Development Board while her old boss, Chris Berry, has assumed duties as regional account manager for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. And Angi Schreiber, who has worked with Berry  and Close on a variety of  projects, has been named executive director of  the Grow North Regional Economic Development Board.

“It’s very positive to have all three positions filled locally,” Mark Desotell, administrator for the city of Antigo, said. “It makes planning more seamless at all levels. Because of their familiarity with this area, when we get together we can spend our time dealing with issues instead of reviewing the history.”

The agencies Schreiber, Close and Berry represent are a variety of intersecting counties and responsibilities, but all have  a common purpose of helping the northwoods—including Antigo and Langlade County—grow.

“There are going to be many times when we are in the same room, working on the same projects from various angles,” Berry said.

Facebook Business Pages a Must

If you’re ready to use your Facebook business page as a strategic communication channel, then, yes. Why?

  • Pages offer an online presence for people to discover and learn about your business.
  • They work across desktop, mobile and tablets without requiring any extra configuration.
  • They also offer tools to create videos, photos and events.
  • They can be used as an effective customer service and reputation management channel.
  • According to Facebook, most online advertising reaches only 38% of its intended audience. Facebook says its average is about 89%.
  • Facebook’s “Promote the Page” and “Boost the Post” options allow for audience targeting and insights along with detailed reports of campaign success, giving companies the chance to learn more about their audiences and adjust strategy and tactics accordingly.
  • Facebook’s advertising can serve as a great tool to build and engage target audiences and build your email database. (#Smart.)
  • LAST BUT NOT LEAST, today Facebook announced it will be adding page call-to-action buttons. The call-to-action button can link to any destination (on or off Facebook) that aligns with a business’s goals. Page admins can select from a group of call-to-action buttons — like Shop Now or Sign Up — to add to the top of their Page. The seven calls to action available are: Book Now, Contact Us, Use App, Play Game, Shop Now, Sign Up or Watch Video.
What Do We Do Now?

If you want people – the RIGHT people – to see your page posts (those that will be most likely to be receptive, responsive and engaged as a fan base) be ready to:

  • Invest in your business page regularly as part of your overall advertising and communication strategy. (Otherwise, only 2-8 percent of your fans are going to see it).
  • Create strategies to develop relevant content that is of interest to your page followers, and is also related to the communication, marketing and sales goals of the company.
  • Hire a professional or train someone to become one. Whether you hire someone in house or outsource this important function, you’ll need someone on your team who possesses the skill set, the intellect, the time and energy to remain informed, behave strategically, actively listen and regularly respond to this changing landscape while serving as a trusted voice for your company and your brand.
  • Use calls-to-action strategically and purposefully in an engaging way that supports your goals and objectives.

America's 20 Best Places

Chicago's wealthy have long been drawn to Lake Geneva by its large spring-fed lake (14 miles in length) and 21 miles of shoreline, including the Wrigleys (chewing gum,) Mortons (salt), and Schwinns (bicycles). But newer Chicago money has since infiltrated the resort. The Pritzkers of Hyatt Hotel fame took over and extensively renovated a large estate originally owned by the Harris Trust banking family. Pat Ryan, the founder of Aon Insurance, owns a 1906 mansion called House in the Woods. Presiding over Lake Geneva these days with a Gatsby-like presence is the financial mogul Richard Driehaus (mutual funds, not bootlegging); his lavish Fourth of July-theme parties are capped off by a shock-and-awe fireworks display for residents. According to realtor Mark Larkin of Keefe Real Estate, the average price of Geneva lakefront properties hit $2.35 million last year, after falling as low as $2.08 million in 2010 from $2.63 million in 2008. Larkin represented the gas industrialist who purchased last year's major $7.2 million property. Generating buzz: Bocelli's, a soon-to-open Italian lakeside restaurant with marina that will allow diners to arrive by car or boat.

The Google phone App is Soooo Good

The new Google search app incorporates the vertical card carousel of mobile web pages, making it easy to get back to mobile sites recently visited. There’s also a new “recently” button in the upper right that takes users to the carousel view. Once there, tapping the Google logo at the bottom of the page brings users to the main search screen to ask another question.
Google has also incorporated Google Maps into the search app:
You can now search Google Maps within the Google app! Now, whenever you search for a place—whether it’s a tree farm or a restaurant after a long day of shopping—you’ll see a map right there with the results. You can get a quick sense of where you’re headed, or even explore Street View if you want to take a closer look. When you’re ready to get going, your trusted Google Maps app will be waiting a tap away with directions.

How do you like the Carousel?

And today, Facebook announced a new option for Pages to display to those visitors — the ability to add call-to-action buttons to the top of Pages. The buttons — Book Now, Contact Us, Use App, Play Game, Shop Now, Sign Up, Watch Video — can link to any destination on or off Facebook. Dollar Shave Club tested a Sign Up button and was pleased with the results, Brian Kim, the company’s director of acquisition, said in the Facebook blog post announcing the new feature.
